PEORIA, Ill. – As homeless encampments are being cleared out of downtown Peoria, some people still have nowhere to live.
Non-profit groups are doing their best to find those people shelter, especially in the dead of winter, but they can’t take in everyone.
“We use the term homeless, or homelessness, or unhoused, but within that, there’s a myriad of reasons folks got into that position. And, different conditions that are going on,” Pathway Ministries’ Executive Director John Rocke says.
He tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, many of Peoria’s homeless are dealing with mental health issues, and that’s something that the shelters can’t necessarily address.
Next week, Pathway Ministries and Peoria’s Dream Center are partnering up to host a screening of “Americans With No Address”. It’s an eye-opening documentary about the issues surrounding homelessness across the nation.
The documentary is a follow-up to a movie from Robert Craig Films called “No Address”.
“They wanted to make something that was sort of emotional and those kinds of things, but then they started realizing wow there’s some things going on, and we need to understand it more. And, so they developed a documentary called Americans With No Address…and we have the opportunity to premiere that here in Peoria,” Rocke says.
The documentary will be shown in the Giant Screen Theater at Peoria Riverfront Museum on Wednesday, January 22, at 7 p.m.
Tickets to the showing are free, but there’s a limited number available.
