PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a garage fire on Madison Avenue early Friday morning.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Carter says crews arrived around 12:15 a.m., finding heavy smoke and fire showing from two detached garages. They were able to bring the fire under control within 15 minutes.
The garages and a nearby home appeared to be vacant, Carter says. The structures and the contents inside them were a total loss. Damage is estimated at $40,000.
A fire investigator and an arson dog were called to the scene. It appears the fire was intentionally set.
No injuries were reported.
