PEORIA Ill. – One man has been charged with Failure to Report an Accident, leading to the one’s death, in Peoria.
According to the Peoria County State’s Attorneys Office, The state’s petition to detain 36-year-old Demoriele Sims was granted Friday, for a hit-and-run that killed 38-year-old Quentin Shinkle, on January 13th
Just after 1:00am on 13th – Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in the south end – after receiving reports of a severely injured male lying in the middle of the road.
Shinkle was identified and taken to a local hospital, where he died a few days later.
Officers obtained surveillance video to help identify a suspect vehicle – it being registered to Sims.
When it was located, the windshield on the driver’s side was caved inward, along with pieces of plastic recovered from the crash scene matching missing pieces from Sims’.
The investigation is ongoing.
Sims will remain in jail until his hearing, on Monday.
