PEORIA, Ill. – An 18-year-old has been arrested after allegedly discarding a stolen gun and fleeing Peoria Police.
Officers were investigating a reported male with a gun in the area of University and Forrest Hill just before 1:45 P.M. Tuesday.
Police observed Demetrius Jones enter a vehicle, and made contact with him. Jones then allegedly placed the vehicle in reverse and fled the scene at a high rate of speed when officers attempted to detain him.
Jones was then seen leaving the vehicle in the area of War Memorial and Meadowbrook, and fleeing towards the City Garage on Dries Lane, before being taken into custody on westbound Interstate 74.
Police say they allegedly recovered a discarded handgun that was reported stolen on the 3400-block of North Dries Lane.
Jones was arrested on charges of Fleeing Police, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Resisting, Obstructing an Officer, two counts of Endangering the Life or Health of a Child, and various Traffic Offenses.
He was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
