PEORIA Ill. – A local, former U-S official, speaks to the deadly plane crash on Wednesday in Washington D.C, that has left more than 60 people dead.
Former Illinois Congressman and U-S Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood joined WMBD’s The Phil Luciano Show, Thursday.
LaHood cited his own experiences working for the Obama administration, saying how crowded that area can be.
“It’s the busiest airspace in the country, Phil, because there are three international airports within a few miles of one another. You’ve got Reagan, which is an airport right smack dab in the middle of the District of Columbia, between Virginia and the District of Columbia. You have Dallas, in Northern Virginia, an international airport, and you have Baltimore,” LaHood said.
LaHood says he’s had many experiences with Reagan National Airport and people need to be patient with those in charge.
“Everybody today wants the answers, well, first of all they have to recover the helicopter and the American Regional Jet, they have to recover the black boxes, then they have to talk to the people who were in the control tower, the air traffic controllers, they have to look at what is being said on the black boxes,” LaHood said.
Search and recovery efforts are underway in Washington D.C.
LaHood was President Barack Obama’s transportation secretary from 2009 to 2013.
