PEORIA, Ill. – The first exhibition to showcase American custom cars from across the Midwest opens this weekend at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
Everley Davis, the museum’s community engagement director, says “BUILT: American Custom Car Culture” is for everyone, not just car guys. And, each vehicle is one-of-a-kind.
“They are unique to the owners and the builders. They are an expression of their creativity, their personality, their culture as well…and a sign of the times too,” Davis says.
“There’s lots of different distinct eras that you can tell throughout the paint jobs and pinstriping that’s on display,” Davis adds.
More than half of the custom cars in the “BUILT: American Custom Car Culture” exhibit are from Central Illinois.
“There are nine vehicles on display, only two of which are not within an hour of Peoria. And so, we’re proud to be able to display these national award-winning cars that all pretty much come from the Midwest,” Davis says.
Each vehicle in the exhibit is one-of-a-kind, with inventive engineering, polished chrome and striking paint jobs.
“BUILT: American Custom Car Culture” will be on display February 1 through April 27.
