PEORIA Ill. – Peoria Police are looking for the suspect in a shooting that hospitalized a 9-year-old child, Sunday.
According to officers, they responded to the 1200 block of Southwest Phoenix, just after 8:30pm on Sunday, on a ShotSpotter Alert of 2 rounds being fired.
Upon arrival, officers located a 9 year old male inside of a residence with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officers immediately began emergency life saving measures until relieved by paramedics.
The child was transported via ambulance to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.
Initial information indicated suspects wearing dark clothing were caught by residents attempting to break into a vehicle.
When approached by a citizen, one suspect fired a weapon before fleeing on foot.
The child, who was inside of a residence, was struck by a round which was fired outside of the apartment.
