PEORIA, Ill. – A major construction project is set to take place on Moss Avenue in Peoria.
Peoria Public Works held an informational meeting with a Q&A Wednesday night to talk about the project, and how it could affect residents along the road.
The drainage project will install new curb-and-gutter, storm sewers, a paver parking lane, and raised crosswalks. The entire stretch of the road will also be rebuilt between Western and Sheridan.
City Engineer Andrea Klopfenstein says it’s work that’s been long overdue.
“This really is solving some long drainage issues, so there was standing water, the road was uneven. So it was just a good time to put it all together,” Klopfenstein said.
The project will be done in three phases over the next two years. The first phase will tackle the western portion of the road, starting in the spring and ending in the fall. The middle portion will go from fall 2025 to spring 2026, with the final portion from spring to winter 2026.
Klopfenstein says there will be multiple different traffic patterns during the project, but the road will be open one way westbound during the entire two year project. The middle portion of the project is expected to close MacArthur Highway.
Klopfenstein says the project will cost around $10.7 million, with Illinois American Water contributing $1.95 million.
