PEORIA, Ill. – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting says Peoria public television station WTVP is nearly in the clear.
CEO and President Jenn Gordon says WTVP received a determination letter Thursday from the CPB, saying nothing new has been revealed after an audit last year.
The audit came after the station’s finances came under scrutiny in the wake of the death of former CEO Lesley Matuszak, with probable cause to charge her with embezzlement and forgery.
Gordon says there’s a few steps left before the station can receive CPB funding again, including paying some fines and submitting a report on WTVP’s internal operations.
“Obviously they want to make sure that we are not getting into a bad situation again. They want to make sure that we’re well-managing and being good stewards of funding that we receive from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. And they’re doing their part, and we’re excited to just be at this stage of the process,” Gordon said.
Gordon says the station has 45 days to submit the information, but plans on doing so sooner than that.
Gordon says it feels good to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“Everyone at CPB has been wonderful to work with, and everyone at PBS has been great to work with,” Gordon said. “We appreciate their due diligence, and we appreciate everyone assisting WTVP and turning over a new page, and starting a new chapter in our community,” Gordon said.
