PEORIA, Ill. – OSF Healthcare Cancer Institute has been a part of the Saint Francis campus in Peoria for a year now, but many people still don’t know it exists.
For the first time on Thursday, Midwest Communications’ Mix 106-9 will be raising awareness and money for cancer care all day at the Cancer Institute.
Morning Mix Personality Scott Wheeler says the Cancer Institute offers a wide range of treatment and support.
“They have a whole host of special services…from a Teaching Kitchen to massage therapy, to counseling, both financial and personal counseling. Those are the extras that anyone going through a cancer battle needs to successfully complete their journey,” Wheeler says.
Morning Mix Personality Janine Fairchild says she feels like a lot of people think of cancer as only affecting the person with the diagnosis, but it really affects the whole family.
“Then you think about the physical treatment, the chemo, the radiation, maybe you’ve heard about the Proton Beam, which is an amazing thing the Cancer Institute offers. But, they do more than that…it’s the whole cancer journey,” Fairchild says.
Wheeler and Fairchild will be sharing cancer patients’ stories, and the impact the Cancer Institute has had on their lives from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Cancer Institute Thursday.
