PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to a solar panel farm off N. Galena Road Thursday afternoon.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Carter says crews arrived just before 1:30 p.m., finding fire in a fenced-off area, with grass under a solar panel on fire.
Firefighters were able to put the fire in the 6600 block of N. Galena out quickly. An electrician was called to the scene to cut power to the grid, Carter says.
Crews stayed on the scene for about two hours to make sure fire didn’t spread to a nearby field or any other panels.
A fire investigator was not able to determine the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at $1,000.
