PEORIA, Ill. – A national chain will soon occupy an “eyesore” near the Peoria Northwoods Mall.
4th District Councilman Andre Allen confirmed that Raising Cane’s will be built on the site of the former Firestone building on Sterling, just off the I-74 exit.
Allen says construction is underway, with the former building in the process of being torn down.
“For them to be able to remove that and put a new structure there, it’s a win-win situation,” Allen said.
Allen says discussions to bring Raising Cane’s to Peoria began in August 2024, when Quattro Development reached out to him about the idea. He says the site is attractive because of its location, which is adjacent to the interstate, Northwoods Mall, and Westlake.
Allen says Raising Cane’s coming to Peoria is a positive sign for the city.
“We’ve got an environment that businesses still want to be a part of, which is great,” Allen said. “I just saw Raising Cane’s had a record year in 2024, so for them to bring their success to the greater Peoria area, District 4, and City of Peoria specifically, it shows we’re doing something right here.”
Allen says the economic impacts include new jobs, increased sales tax revenue, and trickle down effects of shopping at the mall or Westlake.
He says opening is expected by spring of next year.
