PEORIA, Ill. – The victim who died in a Tremont apartment fire Monday has been identified.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 69-year-old Richard Hayden was pronounced dead in the OSF Saint Francis Emergency Department just after 2:00 P.M.
He says Hayden arrived at the hospital unresponsive, not breathing, and with no pulse.
Harwood says Hayden suffered smoke inhalation, as well as severe burns throughout his nasal and oral airways, and suffered second and third degree burns on his body.
Tremont Police Chief Robert Siwak says the fire occurred just before 1:00 P.M. in the area of Chestnut and Cullinan Streets, where the apartment was deemed a total loss.
Siwak says the fire is still under investigation by the Tazewell County Criminal Investigations Unit, the State Fire Marshal, and Tremont Police.
But he says foul play is not suspected at this time.
