PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – A correctional officer at the Peoria County Jail has been fired after allegedly bringing a detainee contraband.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says 25-year-old Ezekiel Hidden was arrested Thursday night on charges of Official Misconduct and Bringing Contraband into a Penal Institution.
He says Hidden, who was hired in June of last year, was immediately fired.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Hidden allegedly smuggled a cannabis vape pen and battery to an inmate, in exchange for $1,000.
Prosecutors say Hidden is released from custody under the SAFE-T Act.
Watkins says he was “deeply saddened” to learn of it, and says Hidden’s actions are “not representative of the staff working for the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.”
