At the Movies with Casey Foreman: “Black Bag”
An underwhelming mystery that ultimately isn’t worth your time.
“Black Bag” is yet another installment of the ongoing Michael Fassbender series of spy films, and may be my least favorite yet.
It’s a grounded story, regarding a mysterious problem that really isn’t explained until the very end of the film, not allowing the audience to truly understand the scale of the situation, until it doesn’t matter anymore.
The performances were solid across the board, but no single character stood out more than another.
Ultimately the payoff / reveal at the end was just as anticlimactic as the rest of the film, mainly because of the lack of emotional connection to any of the lead characters.
It’s very clear they are steering the ship in a certain direction for the majority of the film – only for it to materialize in a matter of minutes.
This 100% would be better if it was direct-to-streaming.
