PEORIA, Ill. โ Peoria County voters now get to join the consolidated election party.
Monday is the first day voters in the county can cast an early ballot for the April first elections. Early voting was well underway in surrounding counties, such as Tazewell and Woodford.
Peoria County Election Commission Executive Director Elizabeth Gannon says early voting had to wait until the ballots were complete. Thatโs because of primary elections in February that were certified last week.
Gannon says the short timeframe can make things a little hectic, but notes the two weeks before the election is when early voting is at its heaviest activity.
Gannon is hopeful for a good turnout in the consolidated elections.
โIโm really hoping that we can get to 25%,โ Gannon said. โThatโs my goal. If we get over 20%, Iโll be happy. But 25% would just make my day.โ
Gannon says the consolidated elections can affect peopleโs day-to-day lives, such as tax dollars for a school district or the priorities a mayor puts on a town.
