PEORIA, Ill. – Goodwill of Central Illinois’ President and CEO Don Johnson is retiring.
Johnson has been with the non-profit since 2016, following years with the Heart of Illinois United Way and the Hult Center for Healthy Living.
He tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show”, retirement for him will mean more time in Northern Wisconsin…relaxing.
“I know in my heart and soul that it’s time to be done, but that merry-go-round never stops. It’s when you’re gonna jump off, right? And, so it’s that kind of feel, but Kim (his wife) and I are staying here, for sure,” Johnson says.
During his tenure with Goodwill of Central Illinois, Johnson has developed new programs including Retail Counts, Mission Integration and Goodwill’s new program to serve young adults with autism, Beyond Barriers.
Johnson also headed up a campaign to expand the General Wayne A. Downing Home for Veterans, raising nearly $1.5 million for Goodwill’s Patriot Weekend, which honors veterans and supplies them with much-needed resources.
Johnson’s retirement will take effect in August. Johnson’s replacement has not been announced yet.
