PEORIA, Ill. โ A teenager charged with attempted murder for a Christmas Day 2023 incident will stay in jail until his trial.
25 News reports 18-year-old Chirstopher Humes was denied a pretrial release at a detention hearing Thursday.
Humes is charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing several gunshots at a minor while trying to rob them during a sale of marijuana.
The judge ruled that Humes posed a danger to the community when the nature and circumstances of the crime were considered, and uncertainty about whether Humes would comply with the rules of pre-trial release.
At a previous hearing this week, Humesโ family members pledged to watch him closely if he was released from jail.
But the judge countered that, saying a 24/7 watch of Humes is unrealistic, and that he committed crimes previously under the familyโs watch.
Prosecutors also testified that Humes was on probation when the attempted murder occurred, and that he possessed weapons, specifically three guns as a minor.
