PEORIA, Ill. – The fourth season of Peoria City Soccer is on the horizon.
The season starts on Saturday with the Copa Peoria Series exhibition against the under-23 squad of Mexico Liga BBVA MX superpower Chivas de Guadalajara.
Chivas returns for the second straight year after playing in Peoria last summer. Last year, both teams played a two game series, with a draw in the 1st match and Chivas winning 3-2 in the second.
Peoria City President Jim Derose tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” that this year’s Copa will take place at Peoria Stadium.
“Our kind of thing is an iconic game at an iconic stadium,” Derose said.
The Copa match will take place at 3:00 P.M., with a regular season high school girls’ soccer match between Peoria Notre Dame and Geneseo preceding it at 1:00 P.M.
Peoria City, last year’s national runner-up in USL League 2, will start their fourth season on May 10th at the Saint Louis Ambush. Peoria City is also fielding a women’s team in the WPSL for 2025.
