PEORIA, Ill. โ A teenager learned his fate after being found guilty of an execution style murder in Peoriaโs East Bluff in 2023.
The Peoria County Stateโs Attorneyโs Office says 16-year-old Byron Jarvis was sentenced to 55 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Friday.
He was found guilty of First Degree Murder in December in the shooting death of 17-year-old Dahvie Brown-Bey in August of 2023.
Jarvis, who rode up to a group of kids on a scooter and fired four shots at Dahvie at close range, with three at his head, was 14 years old at the time of the murder.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Katherine Gorman echoed frustration from Brown-Beyโs mother over youths carrying guns, saying โitโs not cute, itโs not fine, and itโs not a video game.โ
Family members of Dahive spoke about how he was a quiet boy who loved playing football. The family also spoke directly to Jarvis, saying they did not just destroy them, but himself. The family also forgave Jarvis, and said they hope he can understand the harm he caused to himself.
Jarvis will serve time in both juvenile and adult facilities and will be eligible for parole in 20 years.
