PEORIA, Ill. – IDOT has announced that the first of six scheduled demolition explosion events on the McClugage Bridge will take place on Thursday of next week.
Beginning around 10 a.m. and continuing for up to an hour, the McClugage Bridge will be completely closed and surrounding roads will be shut down as explosions are used to sever steel girders on the east side of the old eastbound span.
Traffic on Route 150 on both sides of the bridge will be rerouted at the interchange ramps, but will be continuously moving, as stopped traffic will not be permitted.
Traffic on the Peoria side of the bridge on Route 29/Adams Street will remain open.
IDOT has five more explosion events planned over the next three months but the actual dates of the upcoming blasts have not been announced.
