PEORIA, Ill. โ Peoria firefighters responded to a residential fire around noon-time Friday on N. Renwood Avenue.
Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Calhoun says crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the home upon arrival at the scene.
The fire originated in a bedroom at the back of the home, Calhoun says. Firefightersโ quick action prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home, though smoke and water damage did occur on the main level of the home and in the basement.
Three adults were home at the time of the fire. All three were able to leave the home before crews arrived. Firefighters rescued a family dog, and returned it safely to the homeowner.
One adult was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center for evaluation.
The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for roughly two hours to check for hidden fire and hotspots.
A Fire Department Investigator and arson dog were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
The Red Cross is providing temporary housing for the three adults. No firefighter injuries were reported.
Damage is estimated at $80,000.
