PEORIA, Ill. โ Bradley University will host a welcoming celebration to officially introduce James Shadid as the universityโs 13th president.
The event will take place April 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Renaissance Coliseum.
Shadid begins his role as Bradley president April 1 after the unanimous decision of the Bradley Board of Trustees to select the U.S. Federal Court judge to the post.
Shadid was appointed a federal judge by President Barack Obama and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2011. He was also a state judge for ten years prior, serving in the five-county 10th Judicial Circuit. After graduating from John Marshall Law School (now the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law) in 1983, he became a private practice attorney in the Peoria area.
Shadid is a 1979 Bradley graduate and university officials say Shadid has long given back to his alma mater both as an adjunct professor and as a former university trustee.
Bradley officials say the celebration will offer a chance for students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to meet Shadid.
Bradley University leaders and other distinguished guests and community members, along with Shadid himself, will speak during the event.
