Peoria crews battle garage fire Wednesday afternoon

PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a garage fire on N. Columbus Avenue late Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Battalion Chief Phil Snowden says crews arrived around 4:40 p.m., finding light smoke coming from an unattached garage at the rear of a home. A small fire, found outside the garage, was put out quickly.

Damage to the garage was minimized by the firefighters’ fast work, Snowden says.

A Peoria fire investigator said the cause of the blaze was accidental.

Damage was estimated at $1,500.
