PEORIA, Ill. – After months of campaigning, the fate of candidates for the April consolidated elections are in the hands of the voters.
Tuesday marks elections in Illinois for mayors, city councils, school boards, townships, and more. Polls are open from 6:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Hundreds of races are being contested across central Illinois in a wide range of races.
Peoria will be electing a mayor and nearly half of the city council. The mayoral race is between incumbent Rita Ali and current at-large councilman John Kelly.
The city council will have a new member in District Two, after Chuck Grayeb chose to run for mayor instead of another council term. The race to replace him is between Alex Carmona and Estrella Diaz.
Other Peoria City Council races include incumbent Denise Jackson against James Kemper in District One, incumbent Andre Allen against Jamie Messmore in District Four, and incumbent Denis Cyr against Hind Abi-Akar in District Five.
The Peoria Heights Board of Trustees will have at least two new members, as incumbent Jennifer Reichert is the only trustee running for reelection. She joins five candidates for three spots, with challengers Teresa Symmonds, James Kellock III, Jason Jones, and Mathan Steinwedel.
Washington will also be electing a new mayor on Tuesday, after current mayor Gary Manier chose to step down from the role. The race to replace him is between the current two Ward One aldermen, Mike Brownfield and Lilija Stevens. Brownfield will not be running again in Ward One, and the race to replace him is between Todd Sluder and Paula Johnson.
Voters in Washington’s District 52 will vote on school board members and a referendum. Six people are vying for four spots on the school board, after none of the incumbents chose to be re-elected. The candidates are Bradley Rose, Jeffrey Vallosio, Shelby Yocum, John Mitchell, Abby Novak, and Andrew Kistner.
The referendum in District 52 asks voters to decide on issuing $23 million in bonds to build a new Lincoln School building.
In Morton, four people are vying for three spots on the village board of trustees. They include incumbents Craig Hilliard and Nate Parrott, and challengers John Cirilli and Andrew Schatz. Five people are in contention for four spots on a heated CUSD #709 school board race. They include Ashley Fischer, Krystiana Purdy, Wesley Ohnesorge, and incumbent Jerry Rudd and Diane Krall. Krall will win one of the four spots, because the board requires at least one person from the unincorporated area of Morton.
There will be at least one new member of the Pekin City Council, with six candidates for three spots. Incumbents Chris Onken and David Nutter are running for re-election, while Christopher Hogue, Matthew Johnson, Jimmie Fletcher Jr., and Peg Phillips are looking to win seats.
In Chillicothe, Mayor Michael Hughes is running for reelection against Timothy White. Princeville Village President Jeffrey Troutman is seeking another term against challenger Ricky Dean Pope.
