WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – The Woodford County Coroner has identified the woman who died along with her dog in a fire in Spring Bay Monday.
Coroner Tim Ruestman said 34-year-old Shelby Luncsford was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 p.m. An autopsy showed Luncford died from carbon monoxide intoxication due to the fire.
Ruestman says Luncsford and her pet were found in the same room of a house on Upper Spring Bay Road, and two other people with severe burns were transported to a burn unit at a Springfield hospital.
According to 25 News, the Spring Bay Fire Protection District said a firefighter was injured on-scene and taken to a local hospital.
Firefighters got the fire call around 4:30 a.m. Monday, finding the first floor fully engulfed in flames.
Woodford County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dennis Tipsword said the third floor collapsed, and the structure that had been divided into apartments is a total loss.
A total of 11 fire departments responded to the fire, with 55 volunteers and 23 vehicles also responding.
Luncsford’s death and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.
