PEORIA, Ill. – Incumbents in the city of Peoria had a good night at the ballot box on Tuesday.
Mayor Rita Ali won a second term over challenger, at-large councilman John Kelly, by a 60-40% vote margin.
Denise Jackson easily defeated challenger James Kemper in District One, gathering more than 75% of the vote. Denis Cyr won nearly 64% of the vote over challenger Hind Abi-Akar in District Five.
It was much tighter in District Two to replace Chuck Grayeb, with Alex Carmona leading Estrella Diaz by 73 votes after Election Night. In District Four, incumbent Andre Allen leads Jamie Messmore by 79 votes.
In the Peoria City Treasurer race, Jim Montelongo defeated Brooke Sommerville with 55% of the vote.
Other mayoral candidates in Peoria County kept their seats after Tuesday’s consolidated elections.
In Chillicothe, Michael Hughes defeated challenger Timothy White with 54% of the vote. Princeville Village President Jeffrey Troutman won re-election by 25 votes over challenger Ricky Dean Pope.
The incumbent trustees in Princeville, Steven Potter and Teresa Gilroy, won re-election, with Spencer Wilson also winning a seat.
The one incumbent running for reelection on the Peoria Heights Board of Trustees easily won another term.
Five candidates were running for three spots, with incumbent Jennifer Reichert leading the way with nearly 27% of the vote. Teresa Symmonds and Nathan Steinwedel also won seats on the Board, getting around 23% and 21% of the vote respectively.
J.T. Kellock III fell short with 18 percent of the vote, and Jason Jones received nearly 11%.
Matthew Wigginton was unopposed to become the new Peoria Heights Village President.
Washington voters elected a new leader on Tuesday. Lilija Stevens defeated fellow Ward One Alderman Michael Brownfield to win the city’s top job in Tuesday’s consolidated elections, gathering more than 54% of the vote.
Stevens will take over for Gary Manier, who decided to not seek another term leading Washington.
Brownfield’s Ward One seat was up for election, with Todd Sluder winning with close to 54% of the vote over Paula Johnson.
Voters in Washington also elected new school board members and for a new school building.
No incumbents ran for reelection in District 52, with six candidates for four spots. The winners were Shelby Yocum, Abby Novak, Andrew Kistner, and John Mitchell.
Voters also said yes to issuing $23 million in building bonds to build a new Lincoln Grade School building, with more than 62% voting yes for it.
A hotly contested race for the Morton School Board was not a close race.
A coalition of four conservative-leaning candidates easily won the four available seats after Tuesday’s consolidated elections. Wesley Ohnesorge, Jerry Rudd, and Krystiana Purdy won the three available seats in the incorporated area, while Diane Krall was elected as the only unincorporated area candidate. All four received around 23% of the vote.
Ashley Fischer was the odd candidate out only receiving about 7% of the vote.
Voters in Morton also elected Village Trustees, with incumbents Craig Hilliard and Nate Parrott winning re-election, and John Cirilli winning the other available seat.
One Pekin City Council incumbent will be back in his role, while another was voted out.
Six candidates were vying for three seats on the council in Tuesday’s consolidated elections. Incumbent David Nutter received the most votes, with around 19% of the vote. Jimmie Fletcher also received 19%, while Peg Phillips received 18% of the vote.
Incumbent Chris Onken fell short, receiving only 16% of the vote to finish in fifth place.
Metamora appears to be getting a new leader. Metamora Village President John Cummings lost a close race in his bid for another term to challenger Dawn Deeb in Tuesday’s consolidated elections. Deeb leads by 15 votes after Election Night.
Voters in Germantown Hills appear to stay the course, choosing to re-elect Karl Figg as Village President over challenger Nicole Wilson. Figg leads by 53 votes after Election Night.
Also in Germantown Hills, Ryan White, Sarah Diesel, and Elizabeth Cunningham were the top three voter getters in the Village Trustee race. Incumbent Paige Patel fell short of re-election by eight votes.
