PEORIA, Ill. โ A new age of leadership officially begins Tuesday at Bradley University.
Tuesday marks the first official day of James Shadid as president of the university, the 13th in Bradleyโs 128-year history.
Shadid, a 1979 Bradley graduate, marked his first day with a welcome message to the Bradley community.
โI am excited to join you, as we start this next chapter of the rich tradition of the university we all love and cherish,โ Shadid said.
Shadid says he is looking forward to faculty, students, staff, and the Board of Trustees to inspire a culture of learning and entrepreneurship. His message also touched upon a desire to provide new offerings for students, and to strengthen bonds between the school and its alumni.
Shadid says he wants to keep the focus on the โone reasonโ Bradley exists, the students. He says the university is there to โunleash the talent and potentialโ of every student.
Shadid is a former federal judge who was approved by the Board of Trustees on March 12th to be the universityโs president. He takes over the role from Stephen Standifird, who stepped away from the job in June of last year.
A welcoming event for Shadid will take place next week at Renaissance Coliseum.
