WASHINGTON, Ill. – A woman has been arrested for a fatal pedestrian crash in Washington allegedly caused by a drunk driver.
Washington Police say 35-year-old Michael Ayers, whose address is unknown, was crossing the road near the Cherry Tree Shopping Center when he was hit by a car about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Initially, Ayers was in intensive care, but died hours later at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood tells 25 News.
Harwood says an autopsy performed Friday showed Ayers suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy says the driver of the car was arrested for DUI and vehicular homicide, but the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office will make a final determination on charges.
The suspect’s name was not released. The Tazewell County State’s Attorney Kevin Johnson has not released any comments about the case.
