SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The trial of a Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Sonya Massey last year could move to Peoria County.
At a motion hearing Tuesday in Springfield, a change of venue for the trial of Sean Grayson was granted to Peoria County without objection.
Court documents show the next hearing for the case will be April 23rd in Springfield.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 6th last year, when Massey called to investigate a “prowler” to her home, with Grayson and another officer responding.
Body camera footage from the officers shows Massey removing a pot of water from a stove at the officer’s requests.
Grayson then allegedly shot Massey after he told her to put the pot down, with Massey reportedly making no apparent verbal threats or movement towards the officers.
