PEORIA, Ill. – Two former Peoria prep standouts have committed to continue their collegiate careers with new teams. One of them is coming home while the other is moving closer to home.
Former Peoria Notre Dame star Mya Wardle (pictured) announced on X Saturday her commitment to play at Bradley University for Head Coach Kate Popovec-Goss.
Also Saturday, Peoria High grad Aaliyah Guyton announced her commitment to play at Illinois.
Wardle’s announcement simply stated, “Coming home! Let’s go to work!”
Wardle has just completed her freshman season at Eastern Kentucky University. She appeared in 32 games off the bench averaging 1.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game,
Eastern Kentucky was 21-12 on the season, 10-8 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, losing to Florida Gulf Coast in the semifinals of the ASUN tournament.
Wardle helped lead Peoria Notre Dame to a 97-15 overall record through four seasons.
Wardle averaged 16.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.5 steals per game throughout her high school career.
Wardle also participated in track and soccer at PND, holding the school record in the 4×400. Her soccer team also won the state title in her senior season.
Bradley is coming off a 14 win season, four more wins than during the previous four years combined. The Braves, 7-13 in the Missouri Valley Conference, were eliminated in the second round of the MVC women’s tournament after winning a first round game for the first time since the program’s tournament championship run in 2021.
Wardle’s father is Bradley Men’s Basketball Head Coach Brian Wardle.
Guyton has just completed her freshman season at Iowa. The Hawkeyes were 23-11 overall, 10-8 in the Big Ten. Iowa lost to Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament and was selected to the NCAA women’s tournament making it to the second round, including a first round win over Missouri Valley Conference tournament champion Murray State.
Guyton played in 29 games averaging 16.3 minutes per game. Guyton averaged 4.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and shot 37.3 percent from three-point range. Guyton scored a season-high 15 points in a game vs. Northwestern.
Guyton was the 57th overall prospect, according to ESPN.com, following her senior year at Peoria High and the No. 1 player in Illinois according to PrepGirlsHoop.com. She averaged 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists during her junior year.
Guyton was a two-time All-Big 12 Player of the Year, two-time First Team All-Big 12 Conference and two-time First Team IBCA.
