SPRINGFIELD, Ill. โ Peoria Public Schools is among nearly 2,500 districts statewide that are receiving funding from the Illinois Secretary of Stateโs Office for school libraries.
Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, who is also the state librarian, says PPS will receive over $10,200.
Other area schools getting a significant amount include Dunlap CUSD 323, receiving over $4,100, Morton CUSD 709, receiving nearly $2,800, Washington CHSD 308, receiving $1,250, Pekin CHSD, receiving over $1,500, and East Peoria SD 86, receiving over $1,170.
The grants are given to libraries each spring and support students in grades K-12. The grants fund new library books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual library materials, as well as technology support and programs.
โIllinois students deserve to have access to quality library resources, including learning materials, books and online services at our public schools,โ Giannoulias says.โLibraries serve as places of knowledge, learning, and discovery, and this funding will help equip them to educate and inspire our future generations.โ
Each school district receives a minimum of $850, which represents just under 90 cents per student in each district.
