WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. โ Some lost or adoptable animals may soon have a new home after the Woodford County board approved a new animal control facility.
Board members plan to remodel the former Church of Christ building at 1301 Douglas Road near Metamora. The board unanimously approved the new building last week.
Woodford County Chief Deputy and Republican State Rep. Dennis Tipsword says the $200,000 came from taxpayer dollars, an animal control fund, and a private partnership with a group that funds animal control facilities.
Woodford County has been renting a facility between Eureka and Roanoke, but it wasnโt the countyโs property. The situation pushed them to find a new building.
The plan is to hold about 30 dogs in the new facility and bring over three employees working at the current facility, but that plan has not been finalized.
โWeโre picking up a lot of dogs. Itโs important to have a facility like this to keep the dogs safe until we can find their owners,โ Tipsword tells 25 News.
The closing on the building is set for April 28.
