HANNA CITY, Ill. – Officials at Wildlife Prairie Park are looking for an artifact reported stolen.
The Park’s Facebook page said a .36-caliber muzzle-loading percussion cap rifle was stolen recently, although no exact date was given.
The artifact was donated to the park in 1981 by Russell W. Brooks. Brooks’ family owned the rifle since 1835 and made its way from Pennsylvania to Smithville, Illinois with his grandparents in 1850.
Officials wrote on the page the rifle has a long history and the park and was on display in the Log Room.
Park officials ask anyone with information on the rifle’s whereabouts to call their local police department.
