PEORIA, Ill. – A test drive in Peoria allegedly turned into a carjacking on Saturday.
Peoria Police says officers responded to Autohaus of Peoria on Van Winkle Way just after 1:30 P.M.
The male victim told police he and the male suspect were conducting a test drive. That’s when the suspect allegedly told the employee he was armed with a handgun and ordered him to get out of the vehicle.
The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Tyshawn Britton of Peoria, then drove away at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was later found on Interstate 155 near San Jose.
Britton was taken into custody, but police say a firearm was reportedly not located on him, nor in the vehicle.
Britton was arrested for Aggravated Vehicle Hijacking and other charges, and taken to the Peoria County Jail.
