PEKIN, Ill. – The man accused of a double homicide in South Pekin last week will undergo an exam to determine if he’s mentally fit for trial.
25 News reports a detention hearing was held for 21-year-old Memphis Rue on Tuesday, where he appeared via video conference.
Tazewell County Judge Chris Doscotch granted the defense motion for a mental fitness examination and scheduled a preliminary hearing for May 22.
No mention was made in court on Tuesday whether the defense will contest the prosecution’s motion to keep Rue in jail before his trial.
Rue is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of Dawson Reese and Chase Rhodes at a South Pekin home. Both were 21 years old and found dead in the basement.
