PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to a structure fire on Alexander Avenue early Wednesday morning.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron says just after 2:30 a.m., crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of a home. They were able to make their way to the second floor, finding extensive fire and holes in the floor, including a bedroom floor that collapsed.
A search found no one inside the home. The home was later confirmed to be vacant.
The fire was out in about 20 minutes. Crews remained on-scene to put out the hot spots.
Two Peoria firefighter/paramedics were injured during the call. Both were taken to a hospital for their injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
