PEORIA, Ill. – Lorie Baxter is hanging up her gear within the Peoria Fire Department after 27 years.
Baxter is Division Chief of Operations and is the first woman to be selected to the executive board of Peoria Firefighters Local 50.. She also helped organize fundraisers to benefit local charities.
“I’ve always been one to say that if you believe in yourself and work hard, you can accomplish anything you want,” Baxter told 25 News.
“I’m hoping I’m a role model for the girls to follow, the ones who are still here.”
Baxter said she did not look at her firefighting career as a job, but as a passion.
Baxter will be staying in Peoria and is looking forward to spending time with her family.
Her replacement is Division Chief Ryan Calhoun.
