PEORIA, Ill. – The political activist group 50501 stated its second protest in as many weekends in Peoria.
A large number of protesters gathered at Peoria Stadium Saturday to voice their displeasure over Trump Administration policies.
Local officials say that number has grown from about 200 to more than 700 in just the last month.
“I’m realizing now, for the first time in my life, it’s okay to use your voice,” protester Melinda Frank told 25 News. “I feel as sense of community, safety, and that it’s okay to go out, ask questions, have peaceful protests, and come together as one.”
Protest leaders and protesters encourage people to not only show up for demonstrations but also contact their local lawmakers about their concerns.
50501 leaders say they plan to host more peaceful protests throughout the summer, with the next one coming up in June.
