PEORIA, Ill. – A Pekin man was indicted on Tuesday for allegedly trying to entice a minor for sex.
41-year-old Mark Peterson is named in a 22-page criminal complaint filed in federal court on April 25.
Peterson was arrested by FBI agents April 24 outside a Peoria coffee shop, for allegedly trying to meet up with someone he believed was a 10-year-old for sex.
In the indictment, Peterson is alleged to have gone to the CXT Roasting on Knoxville Avenue, in Peoria, and was taken into custody by federal law enforcement officers around 10:45 a.m. on April 24.
According to the Department of Justice, Peterson communicated on a social media platform with an individual who he believed had access to a ten-year-old girl, expressing several times that he wanted to have sex with the girl.
Peterson waived his right to a detention hearing. He remains in custody of U.S. Marshals.
If convicted of attempted enticement of a minor, Peterson faces a minimum sentence of 10 years to life in prison.
