PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria tradition celebrates its 40th anniversary this weekend.
The Susan G. Komen Memorial Affiliate is hosting the “More Than Pink” Walk Saturday morning, starting bright and early at the Metro Centre (4700 N. University Street) in Peoria.
Memorial Affiliate Executive Director Jordan Clum is expecting a pretty big crowd.
“We’re hoping to have over a thousand people there this weekend. A lot of families are in town for Mother’s Day weekend, so people tend to bring them along,” Clum says.
The name of the Komen Foundation’s annual event changed from “Race For The Cure” to “More Than Pink” Walk in 2019, but Clum says the route is the same this year.
“It’s a one-mile route, and if that’s not long enough for people…they’re welcome to walk it a couple of times, it’s going to be beautiful, so I know people might want to take another lap around and enjoy the day,” Clum says.
The Susan G. Komen “More Than Pink” Walk honors breast cancer survivors, offers support after a new diagnosis, and raises money for important breast cancer research.
“We have a 360 degree approach to our mission, and we do that through research, providing care, helping to build communities, as well as taking action,” Clum says.
Anyone wanting to walk in Peoria’s “More Than Pink” Walk on Saturday (May 10), can sign up online HERE, or show up ahead of the walk at the Metro Centre. The walk begins at 8 a.m.
