PEORIA, Ill. – Big changes are coming for the intersection of University Street and Pioneer Parkway in Peoria.
To make way for those changes, University Street will close to thru traffic in both directions at Pioneer Parkway beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.
Northbound traffic will be allowed to make a right turn only and all southbound lanes, including turn lanes, will be blocked.
Southbound traffic will be rerouted to Altorfer Drive with access to businesses on University south of Altorfer still open.
Additionally, the left turn lanes in both directions of Pioneer Parkway to University will be blocked.
The closures are expected to last five weeks.
Road work in other areas continues.
Northbound Washington Street in downtown Peoria is blocked at Oak Street. Traffic is being diverted up Persimmon Street to SW Adams in State Street back to Washington.
It is scheduled to be closed through Friday, May 16, weather permitting.
Also, the ramp from both directions of Airport Road to I-474 remains closed and rerouted. The closure was scheduled for one week, which would end after Tuesday, May 13, weather permitting.
