PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County jury has found a man guilty of killing a teenager during an attempted robbery two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 24-year-old Tramier Pate was found guilty of First Degree Murder.
The shooting took place the evening of June 26th, 2023 in the intersection of Richwoods and Molleck, and claimed the life of 14-year-old Omarius Gates.
Prosecutors say Gates’ cousin testified that they gathered with a large group, including Pate, for a basketball game at the Woodlands Apartment Complex.
The group went to a nearby store. Prosecutors say Pate approached from behind while Gates and the cousin were walking side-by-side, and pressed a gun into Gates’ lower back to rob him and fired the gun one time.
The cousin identified Pate as the shooter during testimony.
Pate is scheduled to be sentenced July 9th.
