PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Police Department made history with a four-legged friend on Friday.
For the first time, the department held a swearing-in ceremony for its newest K9, Loki. Loki is a Belgian Shepard born in July of 2023 in the Slovak Republic.
Loki will be handled by Officer Brandon Prang, and be assigned to the department’s Explosives Detection and Patrol Unit.
Police Chief Eric Echevarria says it makes sense to be aware of their four-legged partners.
“Anybody that’s ever had a dog in this job, they spend more time, the dog and the officer, spend more time together, than they do with their own family,” Echevarria said.
Loki was sworn-in by City Clerk Stefanie Tarr, and given a police badge. Echevarria says the department’s other two K9’s will also soon receive badges.
