PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Public Schools graduated over 900 students from its three high schools on Saturday at the Peoria Civic Center.
Following the Richwoods High School ceremony, a brief altercation happened in the concessions area near the lobby.
Thanks to preparation and the quick response of the security teams at the event, including school resource officers, Civic Center guards, and Peoria Police officers, the situation was resolved quickly without disrupting the event.
“We’re incredibly thankful for the professionalism of the various security teams,” said Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat. “I am thankful to everyone who made this day special. The positive feedback from families about our new venue, especially the jumbotron view, unlimited seating, and easy parking, confirms it was a joyful and memorable experience.”
Despite the incident outside the ceremony, Kherat said parents praised the overall experience at the Civic Center. “It was a wonderful day for our family,” shared Ms. Aberle, whose son graduated from Richwoods. “We were able to enjoy the ceremony without interruption.”
Superintendent Kherat said Peoria Public Schools remains committed to providing safe, inclusive, and celebratory experiences for all students and families.
