PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man accused of armed carjacking a vehicle at gunpoint is pleading not guilty to charges of aggravated vehicle hijacking and unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Police said on the afternoon of April 26, the suspect, 24-year-old Tyshawn Britton, stole a Chevrolet Corvette from Autohaus of Peoria.
According to court documents, Britton told an employee there that he had a gun, and ordered him to get out of the vehicle during a test drive, leading to a high-speed chase.
The chase ended on southbound I-155 near Hartsburg in Logan County, which is over 40 miles south of Peoria.
Bloomington Police tell 25 News that they are working with Illinois State Police and Peoria Police to determine if Britton is the same person who made off with a Camaro from a dealership near the intersection of Morrissey Drive and Veterans Parkway.
Britton had an active warrant out last month. His trial begins July 7 at the Peoria County Courthouse.
