PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Peoria Heights has hired a former Peoria fire chief to temporarily lead its department.
Tony Ardis tells 25 News he’s willing to serve only on an interim basis to replace Dan Decker.
The village board did not renew Decker’s contract during a rare Saturday session on May 24. Decker had been the Peoria Heights fire chief for less than two years.
Ardis spent more than twenty years with the Peoria Fire Department. He retired in 2021.
Ardis takes on the new role as Peoria Heights has gone back and forth on the future of full-time firefighters on its volunteer force.
Tony Ardis is the brother of former Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis.
