PEORIA, Ill. – The woman charged in connection to a shooting on Peoria’s Riverfront that left a person brain dead will remain in jail.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 19-year-old Deziaah Hunter was ordered detained at a detention hearing on Thursday.
Hunter is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, for a Tuesday afternoon shooting in the area of Main and Water that critically injured 18-year-old Kenadee Wallenfang of Pekin.
Wallenfang was pronounced brain dead on Wednesday afternoon.
Prosecutors say Wallenfang was found by police lying on the ground next to an SUV, with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. A bullet hole was also reportedly found in the back of the driver’s headrest.
Prosecutors say a witness stated that Wallenfang was driving and Hunter was seated behind her, with Hunter reportedly claiming to police that the gun went off accidentally.
A gun without a magazine was allegedly found in Hunter’s possession, as well as a loaded gun magazine and a single spent shell casing.
