TREMONT, Ill. – The 59th Annual Tremont Turkey Festival kicks off Friday in City Park.
The Turkey Festival’s Lisa Scott says over the course of the weekend, they’ll cook up roughly 1,400 birds.
“We have large rotisserie grill-like trailers that prepare the turkeys over the weekend. So, there’s a batch made fresh at least once a day, over the three days,” Scott says.
But, in addition to the turkey, another favorite of festival goers is the Strawberry Shortcakes.
“The shortcakes are made by a local bakery in Tremont. It’s an old recipe that’s been used for many years at the festival. And, the strawberries can be had with the shortcake, or without and made into a smoothie,” Scott says.
The carnival opens Thursday night. Music, food and family fun will continue all weekend long.
Free Park & Ride Shuttles will be available at the Tremont Junior High School parking lot. No parking will be available in the high school parking lot. Signage will direct festival goers to where to park for shuttle pick up.
