PEORIA, Ill. – Fire crews in Peoria were called to a working structure fire on W. Ridge Road, near N. Sheridan Road Sunday evening.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron said when they arrived around 6:20 p.m., firefighters found heavy smoke and flames showing from a side window and door. One resident got out before crews arrived, telling them no one else was inside the home.
Firefighters were able to put out the bulk of the fire within 10 minutes. A search confirmed no one else was inside the home.
Crews remained on-scene for several hours putting out hot spots. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it originated in the kitchen.
One resident was displaced. Damage is estimated at $60,000.
